Abstract

The study examined leadership styles and innovative work behavior as predictors of work-life balance among non-teaching staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Participants were 200 university staff purposively selected from five faculties within the institution. Data were collected using self-report measures, namely the Work-Life Balance Assessment Scale (WLA), Innovative Work Behavior Scale (IWBS), and Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) and multiple regression statistics was employed for analysis. The results revealed that autocratic leadership style did not significantly predict work-life balance among university staff. Democratic leadership style significantly and positively predicted work-life balance. Similarly, transformational and transactional leadership styles significantly predicted work-life balance among staff. Innovative work behavior did not significantly predict work-life balance. This suggests that leadership styles play an important role in employees’ ability to maintain balance between work and personal life. It is then recommended that organizational administrators and university management should adopt leadership approaches that enhance employee wellbeing and foster healthy work environments.
